Junior Lipton and Knost team captains for 2009 need to know that Regulations 31.3(b) and 32.3(b) of the GYA Regulations for Sanctioned Events are waived for 2009. This means that there will be no limit on the number of races an individual may sail in each regatta. The intent is to get more teams to the events because a club will no longer need 5 individuals to form a team. The hope is that you will still bring and use several sailors so that more sailors are getting the experience and joining in on the fun. The Junior Lipton Regatta will be hosted by Pensacola YC on July 25,26. The Knost Regatta will be hosted by Pass Christian YC on August 8,9. Hope to see you there.
At the BOD annual meeting, the GYA Multihull Council was established. A group of people have been doing the business of sponsoring, assisting and handicapping multihull racing events for years and now they are an official GYA council. Bert Rice is the chairman and can be reached at 850 932 2093 or email bert.rice2010@yahoo.com if you have questions or interest in participating in the group’s activities. Yacht clubs in the GYA which have interest in multihull sailing are entitled to have membership on the council and may name a representative, and alternate. Individual sailors who are GYA and US Sailing members and multihull sailors are automatically Associate members of the council.
Measurer Claude Dannemann reminds us that Flying Scots must have the bow flotation bag and the stern port. This is a FSSA regulation that went into effect in 2009.
The Capdevielle Challenger banners have been approved and awarded so look for them to appear at the 2008 winners’ clubhouses – St Andrews Bay YC for Florida; Mobile YC for Alabama; and Gulfport YC for Mississippi.
The sailing season is going full speed now so visit the GYA web site often to keep up with the calendar. You should be forming your teams for the US Sailing championships and the OffShore Challenge Cup now. I hope to see you at the next event. Have good luck, safe traveling and great sailing !!!
Judy Reeves, GYA Commodore
Footnote – Rule 28.3 (a) has not been waived for 2009. It states “Except for the Sugar Bowl, a skipper shall be the helmsperson in only one race.”
