  • David Johnson, Fleet Captain at Pensacola Beach Yacht Club has confirmed that as of July 7, 2010 the Race for the Roses Regatta will be held as scheduled on August 14th.

It is important that if your yacht club has an event on the GYA Schedule to please keep the GYA Executive Committee, David Bolyard Commodore westwindsails@bellsouth.net, John Matthews Vice Commodore johnmatthews@cox.net, Pete O’Neal poneal@asdd.com, Jane Eshleman Secretary skygoddess51@bellsouth.net, in the loop as to whether or not your regatta has been postponed rescheduled or moved to another location. We will post your official regatta information here on www.gya.org.

Congratulations to Pensacola Yacht Club and their countless volunteers and staff that it took to hold the Challenge Cup Regatta. Twenty-eight boats, seven teams, competed for top honors. Congratulations to Southern Yacht Club for winning the event.

Congratulations to Bay-Waveland Yacht Club and their countless volunteers and staff it took to hold the Flying Scot North American Championships. It was definitely a trying regatta with Hurricane Alex down in the Gulf causing havoc on the weather. I’d like to extend my congratulations to all the teams that represented the GYA at the regatta. I’d like to recognize the top GYA teams. Winning the Women’s Flying Scot North American Championship from Buccaneer Yacht Club was Amy Kleinschrodt with crew Sara Hall and Ashley Hall. Winning the Junior Flying Scot North American Championships from Gulfport Yacht Club was Sam Hopkins, Jr with crew Sam Hopkins and Alexander Hopkins. In second place and top GYA finisher for the Flying Scot North Americans from New Orleans Yacht Club was Chris Wientjes with crew David Bolyard. The three boat team from Bay-Waveland Yacht Club, Andrew Eagan with crew Shelby Friedrichs, Zak Fanberg with crew Gary Taylor and Randy Santa Cruz with crew Katherine Santa Cruz and Andrew Trapani won top fleet. John Dane III with crew Schaffer Dane representing Pass Christian Yacht Club won top father and son team.

As a reminder, please get your NOR’s out in a timely fashion and if you send Cathy Cromartie, cmcromartie@bellsouth.net, a copy of your club’s NOR Cathy will put it or a link on the www.gya.org site. If you are hosting a regatta and find it necessary to cancel, change the date or move the regatta please let Cathy Cromartie, cmcromartie@bellsouth.net, know so we can get it posted.
