Multihull Council Offshore Safety Regulations

The 2011 Gulf Yachting Association Multihull Championship will be contested at Gulfport Yacht Club, September 16 - 18. This year we have added the GYA Junior Multihull Award to encourage our GYA junior sailors to prepare for the 2016 games in Brazil in a Formula 16 catamaran design. Yacht clubs are encouraged to send a three boat team in spinnaker cats, non - spinnaker cats, and PHRF multihulls. GYA sailors have claimed medals in the past, and now is the time to prepare for the future.

This five race series will feature the top multihull sailors in the GYA. Make plans now to join us in this US Sailing sanctioned event. Sam V has promised great hospitality and fine prizes. The race track will be top shelf and the talent we have seen in the past will ensure a genuine test of skill.

We are pursuing sponsorship, and maybe a Smyth Catamaran Speeed Seminar on Friday or Saturday morning.

Yacht clubs competing for the Pollak Team Trophy be reminded that a crew list will soon be available and must be submitted prior to the skippers' meeting.

This is a supreme opportunity for sailors preparing for the NACRA Open 20 Championship and the Hobie North Americans to enjoy a great training stage.

Sailors need not be GYA members; however, US Sailing membership for skipper and crew is required. This event is serving as an exhibition event for a National Portsmouth Championship (traditional NAMSA - circa late seventies when factory teams introduced their newest and fastest designs head to head). You will walk away with great memories and enlightenment. Sam, the GYA Multihull Council, and Gulfport Yacht Club will make sure of it.

FWYC Wins GYA Multihull Championship

Our goals include promoting organized sailing events within the Gulf Yachting Association for beach cats and offshore multihulls and provide streamlined scheduling for regattas, well in advance. We also hope to realize a growth in membership through more direct recruiting. This site is under development, and soon, we hope to offer other information regarding event coverage with results, maintenance tips, and a forum for chatter. I am new at this, so please be patient. I hope to see you on the water soon! Bert Rice
